D/s: Don'ts for Doms

During the recent .. *coughs delicately* .. discussions in relation to Dom vs dom behaviours. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with a number of Doms about the issues raised. A side benefit has been the opportunity to read and listen to some of Mars' work.

Articulate and witty i have particularly enjoyed one of Mars' recent 'in progress' audio visual pieces.

"Don'ts For Dominants"

I had always promised myself that I would write about this subject. Partly (in fact MOSTLY) for myself; and partly because I'm absolutely disgusted with the way it's being torn to shreds by a lot of our online "co-inhabitants".

With due apologies to those readers who choose to use the terminology, this is not a "Lifestyle". For that would mean that it is something transient; that comes and goes with time, stimuli and circumstance. It would imply something that could be worn, or cast aside - much like a raiment; a garment.

Again, and with my utmost deference to "occasional dominants", this is a WAY of life; not a passing phase of Life. Talking the talk is certainly insufficient. You have to walk the walk, gentlemen. Even in this chat-world (a strangely online-only medium, where our words are our Ambassadors), what you say IS what you do. So when you talk the talk, remember; it's (mis)interpreted as your walk.


In a nutshell, these are some of the "Don'ts For Dominants" that I always promised myself I would write one day. I'll call them my own version of the "Ten Commandments". Here goes:-

  • Thou shalt not always converse using words like "thou" and "thee" and "thine" and "thy". (After a while - an incredibly short while, that is - they sound exceptionally silly. Oh, and by the way, it's alright for me to use them here. So hush.)

  • Thou shalt not disguise thy desire to fornicate, by calling it "training".

  • Thou shalt not disguise thy desire to fornicate by calling it "protection and mentorship", either. (So bloody there.)

  • Thou shalt not hit on others' submissives. No matter whether the fuck thou construe her politeness / friendliness / warmth as being a desire to "frolic in the furs with you".

  • Thou shalt not say thou art drinking "blacwyne" or "merlot", when it's actually cheap beer that thou bummed off a mate from work.

  • Thou shalt not take up "kneel, bitch" as a motto in life.


  • Thou shalt not enter a chat-room, and commence staring into the log fire intensely, while thou art (actually) surreptitiously checking out the chicks.

  • Thou shalt not enter a chat-room on a white charger, with swirls of mists trailing in thy wake. And if thou must; then thou shall pass out protective guards to all and sundry; to prevent accidental kicks to the balls, by thy mangy excuse for a horse.

  • Thou shalt use "aye" sparingly (refer to Rule 1).

  • Thou shalt not state that thou art "unmarried" brazenly, even while you talk to thy wife on the phone saying "yes, dear...I'm working late, today".

*giggles as she reads blondesis' latest blog on this topic* thanks again sis for enlightening us with Mars' views of Doms... i too have to chuckle every single time a *coughcough* Dom uses terms like "thou art", "thou shant", "thou willist", etc. etc... and i absolutely love TQ Sir's line "kneel wench" *vweg*... *huggggs blondesis and tries not to hurt the stitches*

THE, I can't say I/i "get" all the hype. This "light prose", though outwardly humorous, was very telling in a tongue-in-cheek way. Kudos to Mars, whoever Y/you are.

Regardless of the N/names, the R/ranks, the tags, or stratification within a perceived sexual caste system, the secret is still basically respect for each O/other - real or virtual. Supporting each other is key, optimizing the O/other's actions as W/we all walk this earth in our pursuit of happiness.
